Malaysia Madani Housing Agenda Empowered Through Construction of 56,002 Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) Nationwide
PUTRAJAYA, 13 APRIL 2023 - YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming (YB KM), Minister of Local Government and Housing Development, handed over offer letters and house keys to 40 recipients of the Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) in the states of Selangor, Perak, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan today. The ceremony for the offer letters and house keys of RMR also took place nationwide, involving a total of 500 recipients.
The RMR program is one of the initiatives under the supervision of Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) aimed at assisting targeted individuals who do not own a home or reside in dilapidated houses but have land to build their own comfortable and complete homes.
Since its introduction in 2002 until March 2023, SPNB has successfully built a total of 56,002 RMR units nationwide. The government has also allocated RM358 million to construct 4,250 RMR units throughout the country.
To address the issue of fluctuating prices of basic construction materials, proactive measures have been taken to ensure that the price of an RMR unit to be paid by new applicants remains subsidized by the government, ranging from RM55,000 to RM75,000, depending on the respective designs.
According to YB KM, "The RMR program will continue to receive a subsidy of RM20,000 per unit. This means that the monthly payment for the RMR program will remain as low as RM300 per month for a period of 16 to 25 years."
He added, "The main eligibility criterion based on the monthly household income of applicants for RMR has been increased from RM3,000 to RM5,000 to provide more opportunities for the people to apply."
During the same event, SPNB made a cash contribution to the Darul Ilmi Malaysia Welfare Development Organization in Gombak, Selangor, as part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.
The event was also attended by YBhg Datuk Husam bin Musa, Chairman of SPNB; YBhg. Datuk M Noor Azman bin Taib, Chief Secretary of KPKT; Datuk Hasleen bin Isnin, Chief Executive Officer of SPNB; YBhg. Datuk Saidatu Akhma Binti Hassan, Deputy Chief Secretary (Planning and Sustainable Environment); Tuan Haji Suhaimi Bin Ali @ Ahmad, Deputy Chief Secretary (Housing and Community Well-being); Muhammad Razman Bin Abu Samah, Deputy Chief Secretary (Management and Development), as well as the top management of the Ministry and agencies under KPKT.
SPNB is committed to prioritizing housing provision projects for the entire population under the supervision of KPKT, empowering the housing agenda and the well-being of all citizens through the Malaysia MADANI framework.
